The U.S. White House on Nov. 14 said the launch of a trilateral cooperation secretariat will be announced at three-way talks among Korea, the U.S. and Japan on Nov. 15 in Lima, Peru.
Domestic media including Yonhap News said White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told a briefing on U.S. President Joe Biden's flight to Peru that the forthcoming office will be one of the main results of the trilateral summit.
Advisor Sullivan said the secretariat's objective is to continue cooperation among the three allies through an institutional framework.
Presidents Yoon Suk Yeol, President Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Nov. 15 will hold their summit in Lima on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.
